The Line Up to Perform at the Corvette Chevy Expo

Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 1 pm and 3 pm enjoy the live entertainment by The Line Up, a local band from Galveston Island at the Corvette Chevy Expo and Galveston Craft Show held at the Galveston Island Convention Center.

Founding member and leader, Willy Gonzales, formed The Line Up over thirty years ago focused on great musicianship. Willy plays drums and sings.

Although two-thirds of the band changed several times, current bassist and vocalist Stacy Cook has been with The Line Up since 1996, and Jeff Pennington, the lead guitarist, and vocalist has been with the band over 15 years.

In an interview with Galveston Guide, Willy shares how he began playing the drums at the age of eight.  Willy became the lead vocalist almost by accident. “I told the guys I would sing until we found someone else to do it, but we never did,” he laughs, “so that’s how I became a singing drummer.”

Jeff Pennington started playing the guitar in the fourth grade.  He tells how he became disinterested, “until I heard Van Halen and Rush.”  Intrigued by the sound of their guitars, he started playing again and the rest is history.

The two boys played together, in a garage during junior high, and later at high school dances.

Although Stacy Cook is not from Galveston, he was no stranger. He learned how to play from his uncle.  Explaining how he learned to play bass, he says, “one time his (uncle) bassist didn’t show up, so he taught me to play bass.”  Stacy Cook has played with national performers like Diamond Rio and Tim McGraw.

The Line Up is extremely popular and is a regular at many of the local clubs and events in the Galveston area.  The group has an extensive repertoire with over 500 songs with a wide range of types of music.
